Print an HP self-test page from the printer
- 1Load a few sheets of plain paper and make sure the printer is switched on and idle.
- 2On models with a touchscreen: tap Setup or Settings → Reports (or Tools) → Printer Status Report or Print Quality Report.
- 3On models with no screen: press and hold the Resume/Cancel (✕) button for about 3–5 seconds, or hold Power and tap Resume, then release.
- 4The printer prints its own report — check the colour blocks and the fine nozzle bars for gaps or streaks.
- 5If bars are broken, run Clean Printhead from Tools or Settings and print the report again.
From a computer, open Settings → Printers & scanners (Windows) or System Settings → Printers & Scanners (macOS), pick your HP printer, then Manage → Print test page, or use the HP printer software’s Tools → Print Quality Report.

How do I print an HP test page without a computer?
On HP models with a screen, tap Setup or Settings → Reports → Printer Status Report or Print Quality Report. On models without a screen, press and hold the Resume/Cancel (✕) button for a few seconds until a page prints. Neither needs a PC.
Why does my HP test page print blank or with missing colours?
Usually a clogged printhead or an empty cartridge. Run Clean Printhead from the printer’s Tools/Settings menu, check ink or toner levels, and make sure the tape was removed from new cartridges. Reprint the test page to confirm.
How do I run an HP nozzle check or clean the printhead?
Open Tools or Setup on the printer, or the HP software on your PC, and choose Print Quality Report to see the nozzle bars, then Clean Printhead if any are broken. One or two cleaning cycles clears most clogs.
What is the HP Printer Status Report and what does it show?
It is HP’s built-in diagnostic page. It lists the model, firmware, connection and estimated ink or toner levels, and prints colour and nozzle blocks so you can judge print quality at a glance.
